'Once bitten, twice shy' – a mantra Tottenham fans would do well to remember on the eve of every new season. Despite customary expectation, the Autumnal winds of discontent are once again blowing at White Heart Lane following two points from their opening five games.
The buck has to stop somewhere and the peso will ultimately come to rest at Juande Ramos’s door. Apart from the triumph in last year’s Carling Cup final, Spurs fans have seen precious little promise from a squad they see as weaker than under Martin Jol.
Rumours have also been rife that the Spaniard is struggling to adapt to life in England. Reports have suggested he is homesick and that his family are struggling to settle in London.
Ominously, Ramos felt the need to dispel these rumours himself, saying yesterday “I'm delighted to be in London and delighted to be at Tottenham. I am having a marvelous experience.”
He may well be having a whale of a time, but Tottenham aren’t playing marvelously well. Spurs fans certainly weren’t marveling at the team’s performance as they booed them off against Wigan yesterday.
