Redknapp and Butt, anyone?

At the start of last season i did not fancy Manchester United to win the the league and I was proved wrong. I thought this because the centre of their midfield seemed too weak. I think my thought came a year to soon.

Paul Scholes looks jaded at 34, the same amount of minutes of effective play he will give you. Long gone are the calls for him to re-enter the England fold. The other two English modfielders seem horribly overrated. Owen hargreves went from national villian to hero because he tried quite hard against Portugal in 2006. That led Fergie to pay £17m for his new Nicky Butt.

Michael carrick, the new Jamie Redknapp, was picked up for a similar figure and between the two of them, despite Carrick's reputation as a passer, they have managed to become a plodding duo.

Much of this is forgotten when Ronaldo et al are at full pelt but I doubt whether they can be relied upon to deliver together if the Portuguese is out for any length of time.

The sooner Anderson plays more regularly the better for the long term.
